Web design based on UX/UI design
Kega went to work for ESTG to optimise the webshop with a focus on UX/UI design, which stands for user experience and user interface, with the aim of improving the front-end experience for the customer. This involves working on both the backend and frontend of the webshop to create a Composable Commerce environment.
Research
ESTG's web design desire was to create an improved customer experience. Kega got to work on this by first improving the user experience (UX). UX design defines the structure and functionality of the webshop, and Kega began this process by researching users and stakeholders. For this, interviews were held with ESTG's customers and competitors were examined.
In addition, a Brown Paper Session (stakeholder meeting) took place with ESTG. From this, new information was obtained for the design. This feedback was then taken into account in the development of wireframes and prototypes.
Working method
Kega works together with ESTG with one team, consisting of a project manager, designers and developers. In consultation with ESTG, it was agreed to keep the current house style and continue with it. Next, the style guide, including the grid and column layout, is determined, after which the designers design the webshop in Figma. Figma is a design tool for designing interfaces, websites and apps.
The entire design process is divided into the following pages:
- Header & footer
- Homepage
- PLP (Product list page)
- PDP (Product detail page)
- Shop & checkout
- My Account
For each component, a translation to mobile and tablet is made immediately. After each component is completed, a prototype of the corresponding web page is presented to ESTG. It is an intensive collaboration, with weekly internal meetings and twice-weekly design meetings with the client, where the whole team comes together. During these meetings, the design, feedback and progress are discussed. ESTG's Product Owner, Willem van der Linden, is also regularly physically present at Kega's office.
Meanwhile, the developers are building the frontend and looking at what needs to be implemented from the design and whether this is possible. Collaboration is crucial here, with consistent feedback moments between the project manager, designers, developers and ESTG. This makes it possible to work effectively and to realise both a functional and attractive webshop for the user.
